can we talk about these moments for a second?
I’ve noticed moments like these a LOT with klaine. Pretty much after every emotionally intense conversation they have, Kurt cracks a joke and the tension just melts from Blaine’s face. Every time Kurt can tell something’s wrong with Blaine, the first thing he does is ask him to talk about it—because Blaine’s a “bottler” and doesn’t like to discuss his feelings at all. After they’ve talked things out, Kurt makes a joke to help cheer Blaine up a bit and it works (“sure beats the last time you were drunk and made out with Rachel”, “one final sales pitch, then we can talk about making over Nancy Grace,” “I thought we were” “you couldn’t face up to the bullies at your school so you can do it at mine!” “because of the layers?”…need I go on?)
Sometimes it’s changed up: during the stuffed puppy dog scene he starts with the joke, then gently picks his brain. During the flower scene he started out with a joke and then got serious. During the “sales pitch” scene in the lima bean in PPP, he scatters the jokes throughout to keep the mood light.
One thing is always the same, however: Kurt making jokes and gently prodding Blaine to open up and come out of that shell he always hides away in. He never pressures him if he doesn’t want to talk about it—even if there’s obviously something on his mind (AKA before Cough Syrup), and he always makes sure the atmosphere is comfortable enough for Blaine to really tell him what’s on his mind
